Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is strongly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, which views children as strong, capable, and full of potential. I believe educators play a pivotal role in shaping the learning journey of children, ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive. The Reggio Emilia approach emphasizes an emergent curriculum, harnessing children's interests to create meaningful learning experiences. The educator takes the initiative in this approach to create a play-based learning environment that creates meaningful connections among children, teachers, and families. It is critical to provide a space for children to explore their interests. I believe that hands-on, exploratory play, social connections, and activities customized to their own interests are the most effective ways for children to learn. These experiences allow children to express themselves, interact with one another, and, most importantly, enjoy the learning process.
Jean Piaget's constructivism theory, which emphasizes the idea that individuals construct knowledge through the interaction of their experiences and ideas, has also had a significant impact on my teaching philosophy. I agree with Piaget that unique experiences and interactions with their surroundings are necessary for children to explore and understand themselves.
In accordance with Piaget's views, I advocate giving children the ability to determine which components of their learning experience are most significant to them when they are exposed to new material. I believe this option encourages children to develop their knowledge and abilities while promoting confidence, self-esteem, and independence.
Throughout my various placements, I have intentionally created child-led environments. My approach has relied heavily on open-ended activities, which allow children to experiment with a variety of materials, objects, and toys. I hope to instill in them the value of actively participating in the process of learning and discovering new things by letting them to explore the surroundings autonomously.
