Teaching Portfolio 

My name is Maida Fayyaz, and I am a fourth-year Early Childhood Studies student at Toronto Metropolitan University. My passion has always been working with children. My passion for teaching and assisting children in succeeding grew as children surrounded me. I developed knowledge of designing learning activities based on children's interests, understanding children's behaviour, policies and procedures, a code of ethics, and standards of practice throughout my undergraduate degree and placements. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work with school-aged children in a kindergarten classroom and see what it's like to be an ECE. Working with toddlers is very different from this, yet I still learned a lot.  Having worked with school-age children, I have understood how crucial it is to give them autonomy. It is important that children have the freedom to choose where they want to play, which is why open-ended activities are beneficial. Moving forward, I am delighted to continue building welcoming and engaging environments that encourage children to explore, learn, and thrive as independent thinkers.
